It is crucial that Canada's government and parliament support the UNIVERSAL application of human rights and international law. These principles must be upheld for all: our friends, our potential foes and ourselves - without exceptions. Countries that fail to demand them are themselves complicit.
I am deeply concerned that most of the parties in the last parliament did grant such an exemption to Israel, which has been violating international law since its inception with the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians that continues to this day. Right now, Israel is confiscating Palestinian farms, land and homes for the expansion of its settlements - all in violation of human rights and international law.
I am one of those voters seeking a party that stands foursquare in favour of human rights and international law - without exceptions.
The Ottawa Group of Four in the Green Party seems to stand for the principles that I value. During the election campaign, I shall examine the policy of the party as a whole and statements by its candidate in my Ottawa riding to see if the Green Party will get my vote.
In closing, I'll mention that I heartily approve of your support for candidate Dr. Qais Ghanem whom I personally know to be a dedicated advocate for human rights and peace for all.
Sincerely,
Campbell Robertson
