Letter to the Editor of The Durham Times

I am a retired Canadian Army Major living in Ottawa . In all my voting years I have chosen one of the major parties based on leadership, policy and current issues. The past two years have been a major disappointment to me.

I am the person who brought the Canada Day desecration and disrespect of our National War Museum to the attention of the public in 2006. I purposely say public as my efforts to get the Government and my own riding members, the McGuinty brothers to do something, were in vain.

After the International disgrace of the urinating teens on Canada Day I contacted several Government Ministries to try to rectify the situation for upcoming summers and in particular Canada Day.

One of those contacted was the office of then Minister of Heritage Bev Oda. I was given the name of a contact person with whom I had spoken immediately after the event. My goal was to get plans in place for 2007.

As it turned out the contact person, who was assigned this International embarrassment, was a summer student.

I find it totally insulting to Canadians that an incident that was a slap in the face of veterans and families and veterans was given no priority. This and other let downs by both the Liberals and the Conservatives on this important matter have lead me to put my support behind a party that does not seem to have forgotten whom they are serving.

I am backing the Greens.
